Presentation

Created in 1895 under the name of "Parc des Laurentides", the territory acquired the status of a wildlife reserve in 1981. This special status makes it possible to carry out scientific studies here and to limit access to harvesting activities for a better protection of the territory. Thanks to these measures, wildlife resources such as indigenous speckled trout, moose, black bear and small game are found in abundance.

During the winter season, Camp Mercier of Réserve faunique des Laurentides becomes one of the best-known ski centers in the Northeast. Close to one hundred visitors can be accommodated in 18 cabins. As for Auberge Le Relais, it can play host to 42 snowmobiling enthusiasts per night.

In summer, Réserve faunique des Laurentides is a great spot for vacation activities. While it is best known for the quality of its fishing, several other activities such as wildlife observation, bird-watching, canoeing, kayaking and cycling are offered here.

Wildlife and Other Developments

Réserve faunique des Laurentides enjoys an enviable reputation. Each year some 400,000 indigenous speckled trout are caught on its territory. The reserve's wildlife management team, in cooperation with the Société de la faune et des parcs du Québec, ensures the follow-up on the species by body of water.

As part of this follow-up, the team carries out several initiatives.
See description of work being done:

The forest of Réserve faunique des Laurentides is exploited by the logging industry under Timber Supply and Forest Management Agreements (CAAF) awarded by the ministère des Ressources naturelles de la Faune et des Parcs du Québec. The logging of mature forests ensures the regeneration of the forest and, at the same time, provides a more abundant food source for several animal species as well as high-quality habitats. Réserve faunique des Laurentides cooperates with logging companies, in particular for the protection of the moose, integrated resource management, and the safeguarding of landscapes for the benefit of visitors.
