Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan

With the onset of autumn, small game reign supreme on the reserve. Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and snowshoe hare will be around in abundance. You can also hunt migratory birds if you hold a migratory game bird hunting licence in addition to the small game hunting licence.

Snaring Snowshoe Hares

Snaring is the oldest and most effective way to catch hares. You'll need a small game hunting licence or a snaring licence. You'll also need to get an annual right of access directly from the reserve: 418 256-3806.

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their right of access on line or at the reserve. You can also purchase a seasonal right of access for the small game hunting season directly from the reserve by calling 418 256-3806. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare.

You can go hunting-camping at Lac Charron in the northern part of the reserve near km 178. A total of 8 primitive campsites are reserved exclusively for this activity. It can also be practised in remote areas, except near Route 167.

A 2-day hunting package, including right of access and campsite, is available for a minimum of 2 hunters.

Combine several moose hunts and fish at the same time! It's simple. Just enter the random draw for big game hunting in Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan. Once you've paid for your stay, your group can also harvest small game, hunt black bears, snare hares, and fish in some bodies of water. This reserve is part of Provincial zone #28.

Hunting statistics

In the spring, this activity is offered under the European plan. In the fall, moose hunters can also go bear hunting.

A 4-day hunting package is available for a minimum of 2 hunters. Other stays are available upon request.

Fishing for walleye is part of the reserve's traditions. Choose your bait. Speckled trout, pike, lake trout, whitefish, and yellow perch also abound in the lakes and rivers. We recommend using a van to get to the bodies of water.

For a stay of 2 or more days, there are nearly 25 lakes supplied with boats in the two accommodations sectors for cabin users.

• Speckled trout: 20

• Whitefish: no limit
• Yellow perch: 50

Fishing statistics

You can reserve a lake at different periods. By reserving early, up to a maximum of 4 months in advance, you can make your fishing activity coincide with your vacation stay. You'll have a choice of 3 lakes in the southern and Chigoubiche sectors. You must bring your own watercraft and a gas motor with 9.9 HP maximum.

The day before, you can directly phone the reserve by calling 418 256-3806 or, the morning of the same day, go to the Southern Registration Centre to reserve the activity; 100 lakes are available. The watercraft rental service is very limited on some lakes, so we strongly advise reserving the day before.

Fifteen primitive campsites with a boat launch are reserved exclusively for fishing-camping. Lac Charron (8 campsites), Lac Nicabau (4 campsites) and Lac Marquette (3 campsites) are offered to campers who have a boat. These areas are especially great for walleye and pike fishing.

You can also fish in remote areas with a personal boat. With your right of access, you can fish anywhere on the wildlife reserve, except on bodies of water subject to quota, and those near Route 167. Find out more at the reserve or see the Fishing-Camping package for more details.

Fishing statistics

Chute de la Chaudière-a sight worth going out of your way for. From Route 167, take the cut-off at km 68 and follow the road for 15 km. Short natural trails enable you to observe the falls and its phenomenal water flow from different vantage points. It often captivates outdoor buffs all day long.

Period: beginning of May to the beginning of September

You're in blueberry country, so make the most of it! Look for blueberry plants mainly in clearings left by a recent fire. It's a great family activity. This little fruit will round out a sumptuous meal when made into a blueberry pie. If you prefer raspberries, come to the reserve a bit earlier.

Period: end of July to the beginning of September

Get a right of access at the Southern Registration Centre and canoe on the reserve's rivers or certain lakes for one or more days. Bring your own or rent one at the same place. Once you've rented a cabin, you'll have access to a rowboat on the lake in front of your dwelling. Families often enjoy this relaxing activity together.

When you stay at the Chigoubiche cabins, you’ll have access to a fitness trail designed especially for kids. Bridges and towers just a few centimeters from the ground will provide your little ones with plenty of thrills. A great way to develop balance and independence while burning off some energy!

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a small game day hunting right of access, are allowed to hunt for free.

Children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 4 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 5 or more adults.

A family hunting package under the European plan is offered by random draw at 50% off the regular price for the whole group of hunters. To enter, at least one hunter must be a child 12 to 17 years old and have a hunter's certificate.

Young people under 18 years of age, accompanied by an adult, can take part in canoe-camping at a cut rate.

Children under 18 years of age, accompanied by an adult with a day fishing right of access, are allowed to fish for free.
