Adventure Fishing
Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle offers adventure lovers the possibility of discovering certain bodies of water not offered with reservations. Head out with your backpack, your compass and your canoe to lakes that have hardly ever been fished.
For most of these bodies of water, the wildlife reserve has very limited information on the fishing potential or on how to get there (distance to be covered or existence of a trail). You can fish by the day with your personal boat or by wading, and if you like, you can camp, or rent a hut.
Period:
From May 15 to September 7, 2009
See List of Bodies of Water for Adventure Fishing 2009 and Fishing Results 2008 |
Issue of Access Rights:
From May 15 to 31, 2009, fishing access rights are only issued 24 hours in advance at a registration centre, and only one right of access is issued per person : maximum 3 anglers
From June 1 to September 7, 2009, , access rights can be issued ahead of time for the number of people desired.
For certain lakes or bodies of water, buying a right of access for fishing makes it possible to fish in two different places in the same day. Consult the Fishing Adventure brochure on the Web site.

Hunting
Moose Hunting
Density of moose population: 3.9/10 km2
Period: From September 14 to October 1, 2009
At the time of the survey conducted in 1996, researchers observed 682 moose.
Quota-based moose hunting in Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle is subject to a random draw. This contributes to the sound management of this wildlife resource. Interested groups may share permits for adult female moose hunting.
White-Tailed Deer Hunting
The density of the deer population in this zone is 4.9 deer / km2.
Period: From October 20 to November 14, 2009
Quota-based deer hunting allows the sound management of this wildlife resource. This hunt is subject to a random draw.
Group hunting and shared antlerless deer-hunting permits for interested groups.
Moose and White-Tailed Deer Hunting Combo
Period: From November 16 to 21, 2009
There is a random draw for this hunt.
Small-Game Hunting
Small game hunters can harvest the following species: ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, and snowshoe hare. It is also possible to hunt migratory birds if the hunter holds a migratory bird hunting licence as well as a small game hunting licence.
Periods:
From September 7 to 13, 2009
From October 2 to 19, 2009
From November 21, 2009 to January 15, 2010, registration centres are closed and the roads are not ploughed. Hunters must therefore obtain their access rights for small game hunting by reserving on line or from an authorized dealer. Consult the Hunting Stay Guide 2008 (pdf : 573 ko, in French only). Before leaving, hunters must deposit their hunting results in the deposit boxes located on the territory.
For more information about hunting migrating birds (waterfowl and woodcock), check with the Canadian Wildlife Service.

Descent of Rivière du Sourd
You can descend Rivière du Sourd, which is 48 km long, starting at Lac du Sourd and ending outside the wildlife reserve at the river's junction in Rivière du Lièvre. The route takes 2, 3 or 4 days.
From start to finish, this river has an 80-metre difference in elevation. Consequently, canoeing enthusiasts wishing to do the course will have to negotiate several sets of rapids (class I, II and III), sills, falls, etc. The stretch of the river outside the limits of the reserve is neither marked nor developed. We recommend that you descend this river before June 24th.
Notes :
No canoe rentals for the descent of the river
Canoe-campers must change campsites every day
