Hunting
Moose hunting at Réserve faunique Mastigouche is quota-based. Harvesting males and calves is allowed each year, and a certain number of special hunting licences for female moose are available each fall following a random draw. The sound management of this resource has resulted in a continual increase in the moose population for the past 10 years. Average moose density is now 5.2 moose/10 km2 for a fall population of 917 moose (according to the 2005 aerial inventory. The hunting
success rate in the fall of 2005 was 63 %.
Moose hunting is subject to a random draw. Seventy-five exclusive hunting sectors are distributed among 202 groups of hunters. Hunting is offered in European plan with three accommodations formulas - cabin, rustic shelter or camping for family hunting. ATVs are allowed for hunting.
