Located at the confluence of the Matawin and Saint-Maurice rivers, this wildlife reserve stretches over a wild and beautiful forestland that is covered with hiking trails and punctuated with picturesque waterfalls. Come visit a peat bog that has been developed for visitors and discover fascinating geomorphologic phenomena. You can also watch black bears from the wildlife observation site. The reserve's three campgrounds total more than 90 campsites. Approximately 30 well-equipped cabins located near the water welcome vacationers in search of a natural setting. Wildlife and Other Developments

Wildlife development work is regularly carried out in Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice. Efforts focus on restoring the population of indigenous trout of certain lakes, in particular on developing spawning grounds.

The forest of Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice is exploited by the logging industry under Timber Supply and Forest Management Agreements awarded by the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et Faune du Québec. The logging of mature forests ensures the regeneration of the forest and, at the same time, provides a more abundant food source for several animal species, as well as high-quality habitats.

784 km2
245 lakes
Lake trout, speckled trout and a small population of kokanee salmon, probably the only one in Québec (introduced in Lac Normand after Expo 67 to give a habitat to the fish population that had been part of the exposition).
A large variety of animals including moose, bear, hare and more than one hundred species of birds, such as Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and Loon.
Mixed Forests: yellow birch and maple stands on the southern slopes of the hills, while spruce and birch adorn the northern slopes.
