Adjoining Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin extends over a territory of hills, lakes and rivers. The two rivers that form the place name and the hydrography of this wildlife reserve are canoe-camping classics. Rivière Rouge, with its famous 21-mile section, descends on the Laurentides side, whereas Rivière Matawin flows to the heart of the Matawin Region in Taureau Reservoir. The one river is known for trout, whereas the other is
renowned for pike. As for game, it is present throughout the territory. Rouge-Matawin is very popular among snowmobiling enthusiasts, as they can refuel, eat and spend time at its cabins along the Trans-Québec trail, which crosses the reserve over a distance of 80 km. The supply of complementary winter activities makes the reserve a destination of choice for this clientele.

Wildlife and Other Developments
To ensure the sustainability of resources and with a view to achieving a rational use of the territory, Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin carries out wildlife management work, in particular to improve the fishing potential of some lakes.
The forest of Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin is exploited by the logging industry under Timber Supply and Forest Management Agreements (CAAF) awarded by the ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune. The logging of mature forests ensures the regeneration of the forest and, at the same time, provides a more abundant food source for several animal species, as well as high-quality habitats.
