Réserve faunique de Rimouski

Moose hunting is limited by quota and offered with the European plan. The Rimouski reserve belongs to provincial hunting zone #2 and is subject to random draw. The territory is divided into 30 hunting sectors.

Between the 2001 inventory and the February 2021 inventory, the moose herd of the reserve has experienced significant variations, forcing managers to review harvesting methods. This density still remains higher than that of hunting zone 2 in which the reserve is located. The success rate was 74% in 2025.

The reserve is well endowed with everything that bow and crossbow hunters could hope for.

In Réserve faunique de Rimouski, white-tailed deer hunting is offered by random draw. For this activity, the territory is divided into several hunting sectors.

Documentation

Hunters can harvest Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migratory birds if you have a migratory game bird hunting permit in addition to a small game hunting licence.

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their daily right of access on line or at the reserve for either the Sifroi Zone or the Biencourt Zone. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare.

A pontoon for recreational use and fishing is available for hire in Lac Rimouski sector.

Rental available for a half day or a full day. Rates

With a six-person capacity, these 16-foot pontoons are equipped with comfortable padded benches, a 9.9 hp motor, a swimming platform, and a 12-volt electrical outlet.

For the fishing sectors, there are around forty lakes in 4 accommodation sectors: Lac-Perdrix, Lac-Rimouski, Lac-Castor/Érablière, Lac-Kedgwick/Sifroi.

The daily catch and possession limit per angler on these bodies of water is:

• Speckled trout (Castor, Petit Castor, Canard, Labbé, Épinette Noire and Vert lake): 5
• Speckled trout (La Loutre and Charlotte lakes): 3
• Specled trout (other lakes, rivers and streams) : 7 (new regulatory catch and possession limit)
• Lake trout: 2 (Lac des Échos) or 1 (Lac Côté - administrative measure)
• Splake (Grand Kedgwick): 2

Some bodies of water have more restrictive catch limits in order to maintain fishing quality or to extend the duration of the season.

Along Rivière Rimouski, many trails make it easy to access the river and fish while wading. No reservation is needed. Just get your right of access at the registration centre or online reservations.

All lakes in accommodations sectors are suitable for canoeing. Lac Rimouski and Grand lac Kedgwick are especially good for kayaking.

Kayak rental available on-site.

In addition, all fishing and vacation packages include a rowboat for touring the lake in front of the cabin. Make sure you bring life jackets that are adequate for your children.

Several natural sites are conducive to watching wildlife on the territory of Réserve faunique de Rimouski.

The L’Explorateur trail leads to a lookout named in honour of Bernard Voyer, an explorer from Rimouski. Set on one of the reserve’s highest summits, the lookout offers a panoramic view.

This is a form of still-hunting that is carefully prepared. Trophy hunters choose this reserve for the quality of its bear population. Ask the reserve staff about it by calling 418-735-2226. See the package

The Explorateur trail leads to the peak that bears the name of Bernard Voyer, the explorer in question. Punctuated by signposts recounting his main expeditions, this 4 km trail culminates 532 m above sea level with a view of Réserve faunique de Rimouski. The approximately two-hour long loop can be enjoyed by the entire family, including its youngest members.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a small game day hunting right of access, are allowed to hunt for free.

Family hunting packages under the European plan are offered by random draw at 25% off the regular price for the whole group of hunters. To enter, at least one hunter must be a child 12 to 17 years old and have a hunter's certificate.

Package

A family package for 2 adults and their children under 18 is available early July to early September.

The “Budding Angler” activity, for the next generation of fishing enthusiasts, is offered on the Lac Rimouski site.

At All Times

In addition, children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.

Many trails make it easy to access Rivière Rimouski for wading. This is an especially delightful way to introduce children to fishing.

Children under 18 accompanied by an adult with a day fishing right of access are allowed to fish for free.

A safe grassy fishing site has been specially set aside to introduce young people to fishing.

Children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.

In the Lac Rimouski sector, the Pavillon de la Relève can seat over 30 people. Originally designed for the comfort of hunters under the American plan, it can be transformed to meet the requirements of the event you wish to hold. Note that in this sector, all the cabins have electricity and can accommodate over 48 people in double occupancy.
