Fishing

There are more than 200 lakes and 11 rivers scattered around the 4 accommodations sectors: Bellevue, East, West and South.

The Ministère des Ressources naturelles, de la Faune et des Parcs du Québec has pre-established and approved a fishing plan for fishing with accommodations activities.

Day-fishing enthusiasts can choose from among approximately 15 lakes and 11 rivers.

New in 2008 : It is now possible to reserve your day fishing activity 4 months in advance. For example, if you want to fish on June 24, you should reserve on February 24. Online reservations and phone reservations start at 8:30 AM (1 800 665-6527). See Reservation Terms and Conditions and the 2008 Day Fishing brochure to find out when the different bodies of water open for fishing.

Catch and Possession Limit:


Speckled trout: a total of 10
    In order to promote better quality fishing, the catch limit is lower than the regulation limit in certain lakes
Gray trout and splake: a total of 2
Musky: a total of 2





Hunting

Moose Hunting

Quotas are set for moose hunting to ensure healthy management of this wildlife resource. The moose population has now reached a density of more than 5 animals/10 km2. Hunting success is increasing regularly and has grown 50 % over the past years. The territory is divided into 21 hunting zones.

Period: From September 4 to October 3, 2008

Quotas are set for moose hunting in the wildlife reserve and hunters must enter a random draw. Changes are possible in 2005. Check the website.


Small Game Hunting

Small game hunters can harvest the following species: Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migrating birds.

Period: From October 4 to December 14, 2008







Spring Black Bear Hunting


Trophy hunters choose this reserve for the quality of its wildlife. The average success rate in the last five years was 80%.

Period: From May 26 to June 22, 2008


Outdoor Activities - Summer


Canoe-Camping

Beginners to experienced canoe-campers can enjoy this circuit of lakes, totalling 65 km. The only departure point is located at Lac Lapeyrère. Experienced groups may wish to try the Jeannotte and Batiscan rivers. Fédération québécoise du canot et du kayak : Info-débit (in French only).

Tubing

Tubing Down the Rivière Batiscan (Nouveau Monde)
Period: From April to mid-May (depending on weather conditions)

Hiking

All of the reserve's fishing and hunting trails are great for walking in the forest. There are also four short hiking trails.
Description of Trails

Wild Berry Picking

You can pick wild blueberries and strawberries in the reserve.
Period: July and August


Outdoor Activities - Winter

Snow Tubing

Five slides are located near the cabins (inner tubes provided); the longest slide is at Lac Travers.
Period: Mid-December to the end of March (depending on snow conditions)


Snowmobiling


The Québec Snowmobiling Federation's Trans Québec Trail crosses the territory of the reserve over a distance of 40 km.

Period: Mid-December to mid-March (depending on snow conditions)



Outdoor Skating Rink

The skating rink is located near Lac Travers.
Warming hut on site.
Period: Mid-December to the end of March (depending on snow conditions)










Ice Fishing

One body of water is designated for ice fishing. This activity is offered only to people who are staying in a cabin on the reserve.

Trout fishing equipment and warming hut on site. Fishing access rights are not included in the price of accommodations. Québec fishing licence required.
Period: Mid-December to the end of March (depending on ice conditions)


Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing enthusiasts have two circuits to choose from:

  • 5 km along the Rivière Genest;
  • 4 km at Lac Manchot;
  • 3 km from Lac Travers;
  • 2 km facing Lac Stein (Urubus trail).

You can also go snowshoeing near the cabins.
Period: Mid-December to mid-March (depending on snow conditions)



Cross Country Skiing

The 58 km of trails are accessible to everyone. They are mechanically groomed and maintained.

Skiers can stop for a break at any of the ten heated warming huts.
Period: Mid-December to the end of March (depending on snow conditions)




Backcountry Skiing with Overnight Stay in a Hut

Marked, ungroomed trails are available for those who would like to experience backcountry skiing along with an overnight stay in a hut.

Circuits are from 20 to 34 kilometres long
Length: 2 to 3 hours
Departure: One departure point at the Lynx cabin, Lac Lapeyrère
Reservations required. They can be made starting on the first Monday of November.
Period: Mid-December to the end of March (depending on snow conditions)
