Réserve faunique des Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi

Discover Québec's largest natural freshwater lake: Lac Mistassini. Lac Albanel and Lac Waconichi are likewise vast bodies of water with plenty of northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and speckled trout. Fishing with cabin accommodations by Lac Waconichi is subject to random draw.

  • Lac Mistassini, Lac Albanel, and Lac Waconichi: 15 or 5 kg (whichever limit is reached first) + 1 speckled trout
  • Other bodies of water: 15 or 2.5 kg (whichever limit is reached first) + 1 speckled trout
• Lake trout: 3
• Northern pike: 8
• Walleye: 8

The vast stretches of water in Réserve faunique des Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi belong to a large beaver reserve for which the Cree are beneficiaries. Some fish species, such as whitefish and sturgeon, are reserved for Cree communities.

The lakes are so huge and remote that your boat must be over 5 m long and have a motor with at least 25 HP plus an auxiliary motor in case the main motor fails. It is strongly suggested that you fish on your camp's side of the lake to avoid having to cross the lake in bad weather. Make sure you have 2 bailers, 2 oars, a boating safety kit, and the material needed (fibreglass) to make minor repairs to your boat. Warm clothing and raincoats are indispensable since the weather often changes. Always be sure to put your extra clothing and sleeping bag in watertight containers.

Enjoy the vast stretches of water on the reserve by pitching your tent on a serviced campground or by going camping on your own by the shores of a big lake. Camping periods are different for each body of water.

• 2 children for 4 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 5 or more adults.

If cabin capacity allows, additional children can stay for a cut rate of $10/day/child.
