Anticosti is not just any destination. Recognized as an exceptional location for white-tailed deer hunting, this island is becoming more and more popular among vacationers. Its striking scenery and diversified natural environment make for very exotic discoveries! For over a century, this island at the mouth of the St. Lawrence Seaway has attracted salmon fishing enthusiasts to the fabulous Jupiter River. Anticosti Island is truly one of Québec's natural jewels.
Today, Sépaq Anticosti is a vast hunting paradise that offers exclusive rights, where white-tailed deer-hunting activities perpetuate ancestral traditions. No matter which package you choose, the quality and variety will be sure to satisfy you. White-tailed deer hunting is Anticosti's featured activity, and with good reason. In 2006, the aerial inventory taken by the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF) estimated about 166,000 deer on the island. With a density of 20.9 deer/km2, Anticosti is among the spots in Eastern North America with the highest concentration of deer. In this paradise, deer is king!
The White-Tailed Deer... a class apart! Did you know that...
Sépaq Anticosti... an enviable reputation! With over 20 years of experience in hunting activities, Sépaq Anticosti has earned itself an international reputation. Careful attention to every detail assures you a unique experience. According to hunters, the personnel's exemplary devotion throughout your stay and the professionalism of our guides creates an incomparable hunting atmosphere. The numerous hunting territories all have something in common - their vastness, which allows you to hunt in total safety.
Do you hear the call of the wild? At any time of year, whether you're alone or with a group, reserve a stay of 3 to 7 nights. Choose between the American and European plans, and the service of one guide for 2, 4 or 8 hunters. Visit the Packages section for information on Sépaq Anticosti's hunting packages with guide service.
Sépaq Anticosti also offers a package without a guide with cabin or rustic shelter accommodations. Hunting rights are usually distributed through random draw, but following calls to winners, some hunting stays may still be available.
For many, hunting in Anticosti is a dream! Passing on the hunting tradition is important to us. See our specials for the next generation of hunters and families, plus our 5th hunter special featuring free hunting.
Equipped with a four-door truck, a mobile radio and an all-terrain vehicle, the guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your place of accommodations. In addition to driving you from the camp to the hunting trails, he'll help you adjust your gear and will accompany you in the forest. Since he'll be familiar with the habits of the white-tailed deer on his territory, he'll advise you on the best hunting method to use, also taking the weather into consideration. He'll transport your game, take care of evisceration and pack the meat for your return home.
Hunting Licence and Harvest
You must purchase your Anticosti Island hunting licence at the reception office when you arrive. A stay in Anticosti gives each hunter the chance to bag 2 deer (male or female) and does not affect your possession limit on the continent. You can therefore also hunt in another area.
This measure allows members of a group of no more than 6 people to agree to share their white-tailed deer harvest quota, thus allowing each person to hunt if one of the group members has a white-tailed deer hunting licence and at least one transport coupon. When you arrive, this is a choice you'll need to make.

When you stay in Anticosti with a vacation package, you can go day fishing on one of the lakes or fish with waders on one of the rivers. It is very important to know that day fishing is a quota-based activity and subject to certain conditions related to weather and water levels, among other factors. This activity should therefore not be the main objective of your visit to the island.
To reserve a day of fishing, you can radio or go in person to the McDonald or Chicotte-la-Mer Visitors Centre at 4 p.m. the day before. An agent will be pleased to help you. Remember that...if Mother Nature's in the mood, the fishing will be good...but not necessarily miraculous!
Elsewhere at SépaqAnticosti is a great place to fish for salmon, sea trout and native speckled trout in the lakes, while discovering some enchanting untamed nature. Peace, simplicity and safety are on the agenda.

At Sépaq Anticosti, you can go small game hunting by the day after you've bagged your 2 white-tailed deer. However, it's important to be careful not to bother the other hunters who have not yet bagged their deer. Ruffed Grouse and snowshoe hare are not often hunted, so they're quite tame. You can also hunt migratory birds if you hold a migratory game bird hunting licence in addition to the small game hunting licence.

Lodged in the heart of this small coastal village where deer are almost like pets, this welcoming inn enchants its guests. Its geographical location makes it ideal for a short stay on Anticosti. It's perfect for vacationers who want to visit the Baie-Sainte-Claire area and hunters who are short on time but looking for quality game.
Located 161 km from Port-Menier, this lodge has a number of buildings, including a stable, cabins and a staff quarters. Auberge Chicotte and the Scandinavian-style cabins were built in 1986. They all face the sea and are close to the river of the same name. The word Chicotte appears on cartographic documents dating back to at least 1856, the year when geologist James Richardson inscribed Chicotte River on his map of Anticosti Island. This name is probably the English pronunciation of the French word chicot, which means wood debris. The great thing about this spot is that you can take as many seaside walks as you like. One of the area's attractions is the seals, which gather there by the dozen.

This lodge is one of the main reasons the Jupiter River has become so well known. It's 114 km from Port-Menier in a choice location by a fabulous salmon pool. This prestigious spot is still a top choice for the decision-makers of our society. If the national park is the jewel of this island, the Jupiter is the heart. This is an upscale establishment offering customized service and discretion.

This lodge is located at sea level 105 km from Port-Menier. It's on the north shore of the McDonald River at its mouth. From here on, the scenery is a happy marriage of land and sea. The road winds along the shoreline, composed of bays, capes, and sandy shores. The McDonald offers a real sense of peaceful living, in harmony with nature.
