Day Fishing

When you stay in Anticosti with a summer vacation package, you can go day fishing on one of the lakes or fish with waders on one of the rivers. It is very important to know that day fishing is a quota-based activity and subject to certain conditions related to weather and water levels, among other factors. This activity should therefore not be the main objective of your visit to the island.

To reserve a day of fishing, you can radio or go in person to the McDonald or Chicotte-la-Mer Visitors Centre at 4 p.m. the day before. An agent will be pleased to help you. Remember that...if Mother Nature's in the mood, the fishing will be good...but not necessarily miraculous!

Fishing with Accommodations

Anticosti is a great place to fish for salmon, sea trout and native speckled trout in the lakes, while discovering some enchanting untamed nature. Peace, simplicity and safety are on the agenda.

Speckled Trout Fishing

In early June, between 8 and 12 anglers share Anticosti's 9 lakes for fishing. Three lakes are reserved for each of the 3 groups that reserve a fishing package. The package includes a comfortable cabin for 5 nights, a seaside setting and a vehicle. Find out more about our packages!

Daily catch limit: 10 trouts

Salmon Fishing - La Loutre river

Double your pleasure by combining lake fishing and salmon fishing! A very large 6-bedroom cabin can accommodate a group of 6 to 12 people. Each day, while 6 anglers go fly fishing in the pools of Rivière La Loutre, 6 other anglers can fish for speckled trout in Grand lac Long and Petit lac Long. Salmon Fishing on the Jupiter River

Nothing beats the Jupiter River! All of the salmon fishing buffs who've experienced this little paradise will tell you the same thing. The purity and transparency of its emerald waters make it one of the most beautiful fishing river on the planet! We also offer a fly fishing package for 5 or 6 nights, depending on the month you choose. It gives you access to 50 km of the river. You'll be amazed by the beauty of the scenery. When water levels allow, you can go salmon fishing in a canoe, a favourite activity for many. As a bonus, you can also fish for speckled trout...

When you go fishing, you must carry your provincial fishing licence and your fishing access rights.

You can purchase your provincial licence at the Port-Menier Visitors Centre when you arrive. Access rights must be reserved the day before your activity by radioing the McDonald or Chicotte Visitors Centre.

Dining Room

To add a gourmet touch to your stay in the summer, nothing beats a meal at Auberge McDonald. They offer a daily menu or a selection of dishes featuring local produce. Lobster season takes place in June and July on Anticosti Island. We also invite you to "bring your own wine". When you arrive, ask about the dining room schedule. Just reserve a few hours ahead of time with your two-way radio.

Auberge McDonald

This lodge is located at sea level 105 km from Port-Menier. It's on the north shore of the McDonald River at its mouth. From here on, the scenery is a happy marriage of land and sea. The road winds along the shoreline, composed of bays, capes, and sandy shores. The McDonald offers a real sense of peaceful living, in harmony with nature. Peter McDonald's grave is on the grounds of the lodge. He lived here over 100 years ago.

Guests stay under the American plan with the "bring your own wine" formula. To avoid overweight luggage, we encourage you to buy your wine and liquor at the Port-Menier grocer-butcher store (CFIC). You can even order in advance.

The Jupiter 12

This lodge is one of the main reasons the Jupiter River has become so well known. It's 114 km from Port-Menier in a choice location by a fabulous salmon pool. This prestigious spot is still a top choice for the decision-makers of our society. If the national park is the jewel of this island, the Jupiter is the heart. This is an upscale establishment offering customized service and discretion.

Guests stay under the American plan, with alcoholic beverages included.

Hôtel de l'île

Following a fire at Auberge Port-Menier, Sépaq has bought Hôtel de l’Île to lodge visitors staying in the village. The inn, which has 10 rooms, will also be used to accommodate overflow from the new Auberge Port-Menier and offer food services until the new inn’s restaurant is open.

Construction of the new Auberge Port-Menier is slated to start this Spring, with the opening scheduled for around September 2013.

Do you prefer the privacy of a cabin where you'll cook your own meals? You have all kinds of possibilities on the Sépaq Anticosti territory. All cabins are facing the sea.

Baie-de-la-Tour

The Baie-de-la-Tour campground is 178 km from Port-Menier. It's on an enchanting location by Baie-de-la-Tour and offers 12 serviced sites plus washroom facilities with showers. There are no electrical outlets in the washroom facility buildings.

Le Wilcox

This seaside campground overlooks a shipwreck of the same name. It's 1 km from Pointe-Carleton and 118 km from Port-Menier. It has 20 sites that can each accommodate a tent with 4 to 6 people. Campers have access to washroom facilities with showers. There are no electrical outlets in the washroom facility buildings.

Le Chicotte

The Chicotte campground is on the island's south shore, about 150 km from Port-Menier and 6 km from the Chicotte Visitors Centre. Located along a river and by the sea, it has 15 serviced sites plus washroom facilities with showers. There are no electrical outlets in the washroom facility buildings.
