Parc national de la Gaspésie offers 3 trails of groomed cross-country ski trails. The Mont-Albert sector receives over 3 m of snow annually. It is well-distributed between mid-December and mid-March, making for excellent snow conditions all winter long.

IMPORTANT: The sliding areas (Mur des patrouilleurs and Grande-Cuve) at Parc national de la Gaspésie are temporarily inaccessible for security public reasons.

We have grouped different equipments (alpine skiing, telemark, snowboard, divisible boards) under the same term: high-road skiing. You can practice this activity in many skiing areas, featuring snow fields and glades. Here, there's no mechanized lifts! But your efforts will be rewarded with a powder quality out of the ordinary. These spots are accessible from Route 299 and 16, 8 to 12 km south of the Discovery and Visitors Centre

• Mur des patrouilleurs (Mont-Albert)
• Grande-Cuve (Mont-Albert)
• Off-trail zone (Ernest-Laforce sector)
• Champ de Mars (Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs)
• Mont Hog's Back (Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs)
• Mines Madeleine (Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs) with a need to sleep in a shelter to access this area

Access to these places requires travel by car and a walk varying between 30 minutes and 3 hours. Depending on your destination and your level of physical fitness, it takes, on average, a little less than an hour for each of these climbs. The difference in elevation varies between 100 and 350 m.

Guided activity - Introduction to alpine touring skiing

Is this your first alpine touring skiing experience or your inaugural visit to the Chic-Chocs mountains? This introductory session will provide important information about the park’s mountainous terrain, as well as an introduction to mountain safety and to the conditions that will prevail during your stay. The experienced guide provided by our partner, Ski Chic-Chocs, will accompany you all day long to ensure a safe and memorable outing. Details

Against the backdrop of a winter wonderland, snowshoe buffs can enjoy 13 trails ranging in length from 1.7 to 18 km in the Discovery and Visitors Centre sector and on the grounds of Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs.

Guided activity - Alpine snowshoeing

Discover the alpine environment of the Chic-Chocs on snowshoes. With a guide from our partner Ski Chic-Chocs, you’ll go to less visited areas featuring spectacular lookouts. Details

Four lakes and three rivers (wading) are available for day fishing. A boat is provided on every lakes. Anglers can fish for speckled trout and arctic charr. A provincial fishing licence and a fishing right of access are mandatory. Find out more at the registration centre.

Are you a fan of salmon fishing? In the upstream sector of Rivière Saint-Anne, salmon fishing is practised from June 15 to September 30, 2020. You can fish with waders or from a canoe. A variety of fishing packages with a guide and accommodation are available. Reserve with Destinations Chic-Chocs inc. (in French only)

Short Hikes

Hikers can commune with nature on a vast array of trails, sometimes on an easy path in a valley and other times on a stark peak where the park’s mountainous terrain is plain for all to see. Trails stretch from 1 km to 17 km in length, ranging from easy to very difficult.

Mont Jacques-Cartier: an outing to a protected area

Mont Jacques-Cartier is an essential habitat in the main living area of the Gaspésie caribou and the best place to observe this mammal.

The following rules govern access to Mont Jacques-Cartier:

• Going off marked trails is prohibited
• Hiking on the Mont Jacques-Cartier trail is authorised only from June 24 to September 30, inclusively
• Hiking on the trail is authorised only between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Departures are not permitted after noon.

A park warden makes sure theses rules are respected.

Backpacking

A 100-km trail crosses the park from Mont Logan to Mont Jacques-Cartier. Escape into majestic landscapes featuring barren peaks soaring over 1,000 m high, and snowfall that persists until mid-summer. The route takes you through moose and caribou habitat and is part of the International Appalachian Trail (Quality Safety Certified). Passenger transportation service is available.

Rent a canoe and explore Lac Cascapédia. This type of watercraft is fast and very well suited to long rides on the 4 km lake. In addition, it has significant cargo capacity to carry, among other things, a picnic. For a moment of tranquility, rent a canoe at Mont-Jacques-Cartier registration centre and head over Lac à Pierre.

If you have your own watercraft, you can explore other lakes. Head over to Lac Paul or Lac Claude to check out typical park landscapes.

Rent a solo or duo recreational kayak or a solo sea kayak, watercrafts that are stable and easy to steer. Explore the wild rivers of Lac Cascapédia, ideal for moose watching.

If you have your own watercraft, you can explore other lakes. Head over to Lac Paul or Lac Claude to check out typical park landscapes. More experienced white water kayakers can travel down Rivière Sainte-Anne before the salmon fishing season begins on June 15, 2020.

For a relaxed atmosphere, choose the bistro bar with its fireplace and its terrace open during summer. Offering lunch and dinner meals, the bistro-bar at Gîte du Mont-Albert is also an ideal place to stop for a rest, admire the majestic mountain view, and enjoy a glass of wine or the Gaspésie flavours of the microbrewery beers offered on site. Specialty coffees and sweet drinks are available as well.

The location is unique, as will be your meetings. There are two rooms: Le Sous-Bois and Montagnards. They're practical and can comfortably accommodate groups of 10 to 100 people. You'll be delighted with the superb fireplace in Montagnards room. Audiovisual equipment is available on a rental basis and Wi-Fi Internet service is offered at the hotel. There is also an amphitheatre in the Discovery and Visitors Centre. It can seat 90 people.
