Parc national du Bic

Ecological Integrity

The Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program at Parc national du Bic

Since 2004, the Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program (EIMP) (see also the summary, in French only) has been implemented at Parc national du Bic. A total of 21 indicators are monitored. Among these are indicators for exceptional forest ecosystems and the cutleaf fleabane (special status species), which allow the assessment of the quality and level of habitat protection (cliffs, summits, forest environments). Monitoring of the softshell clam in Baie du Ha! Ha! quantifies the condition of the resource, since the species is part of an artisanal sampling project.

Indicators on the bacteriological and physicochemical quality of the water and benthic fauna help determine the health of Rivière du Sud-Ouest, which is home to Atlantic salmon and American eel.
