Parc national de Frontenac

Go for a walk in the great outdoors! Parc national de Frontenac offers many trails that are rated from easy to intermediate and range in length from 3 to 16 km. Whether your hike takes you away to the rolling hills of the Winslow Massif, deep into a coniferous forest, through a vast peat bog, or near a gurgling stream, observe interesting forest habitats and ecosystems. To make your forest outing easier, we offer a self-guiding trail and picnic areas. Dont' forget your binoculars and enjoy your hike!

Reach for the top!

Discover the Winslow mountain chain a different way by combining canoeing and hiking. From the launch at Lac des Îles, canoe to the docking site. From there, take the 8 km Le Massif de Winslow trail to the peak, at an altitude of 430 metres, where you’ll enjoy a superb view of the southern sector and the surrounding area. Bring your picnic and take a break on the sandy shores of Lac Thor, the park's hidden treasure! Canoe time for the outward trip varies from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the prevailing winds. Time allocated to hiking estimated at two and a half hours. Canoe rental not included (go to one of the Visitors Centres in the Southern sector).

Barefoot, play with your family or friends on our sand volleyball court at the beach activities area located near the Saint-Daniel Visitors Centre. No reservation, first come, first served. Bring your picnic and enjoy the incredible view of Baie aux Rats-Musiques.

Explore Baie Sauvage (Southern sector) and Baie Aux-Rats-Muqués (Saint-Daniel sector) and surf standing up on a board with a paddle (Stand up paddle surfing). Originally a Hawaiian sport, stand up paddle surfing combines surfing and kayaking. This board, designed for calm water, is bigger (longer, wider and thicker), and therefore more stable than traditional surf boards designed for waves. Standing on this big board with paddle in hand, you can test your balance. It’s fast and easy to learn, and guaranteed fun! Rental available.

The vastness of Grand Lac Saint-François is sure to amaze you! A biking trail is offered in each sector: Les Passereaux sector south (13 km round trip, intermediate level) and St-Daniel sector (16 km round trip, easy level). Both circuits are punctuated by a number of serviced rest stops and lookout points. Bike rental is not offered.

Outside the regular season, traffic is restricted at the entrance of the sectors. Cyclists having paid the entry fee can access the trail network from the following parking lots: Sud Discovery and Visitors Centre, Saint-Daniel Visitors Centre, and La Tourbière.

If you’re a keen angler, you have two possibilities:

• Day fishing on Grand Lac St-François: fishing on Grand Lac St-François itself, the third largest lake south of the St. Lawrence River, or on one of its many bays. As Grand Lac St-François is a big body of water, the use of a boat motor is recommended. Please note that you cannot rent electric or gasoline motors at the park.
• Fishing with accommodation (exclusive for customers with a accommodation stay) on the park's inland lakes (Lac des Îles, Lac à la Barbue, and Lac des Ours): fishing is permitted every day but only for accommodation renters who are licenced to fish (fees per day and per person not included). Please note that specific conservation rules apply (limit of one fish per species, except for yellow perch) and that fishing closes once the lake quota has been reached. On the park's inland lakes, a fishing access authorization issued by the park and the provincial fishing licence are both required. To obtain authorization to fish, please go to the Southern sector Discovery and Visitors Centre and the L'Escale Visitors Centre (Baie Sauvage campground). To speed up the process, it is strongly suggested that you have your valid provincial fishing licence (also on sale at the Centre) on hand at the time of the transaction.

Fishing periods:

• Grand Lac St-François: the opening dates of the fishing season must be respected, and they vary depending on the species. You must have a valid provincial fishing licence (can be purchased at one of the park visitors centres). Please refer to the provincial regulations for zone 4.
• Lac des Îles, Lac des Ours and Lac à la Barbue: exclusive fishing for customers with a cabin stay. Offered from May 15 to October 26, 2026, at noon, as well as from May 14 to October 25, 2027, at noon.
• A fishing ban on inland lakes (des Ours, des Îles, à la Barbue) will be effective as of the end of the vacation season.

Main species:

• Grand Lac St-François (gasoline and electric motors are allowed and recommended): pike, walleye, bass, landlocked salmon, and perch
• The park's inland lakes: 
  • Lac des Îles (electric motor allowed; gasoline motor prohibited): walleye, pike, bass, and perch

The pedal boat is a great way to explore the bays of Grand lac Saint-François with family or friends. Leaving from either Baie Sauvage or Baie aux Rats-Musqués, you’ll float near the shores, which are teeming with life, and enjoy this magical natural setting to the max. Pedal boats are easy to handle, and you can choose either a 2-seater or a 4-seater. With this aluminum pontoon-style craft you’ll spin along quickly!

The forests, wetlands and bodies of water at Parc national de la Frontenac are home to a wide variety of plants and animals, which with a little patience and attention, can be spotted.

Several animal species share the area. Moose are especially present in the Southern sector, while white-tailed deer are often seen throughout the park. Whether you’re hiking or canoeing, keep your eyes peeled! Hikers often spot families of beavers along the many trails in the Southern sector. The Bald Eagle, the Great Blue Heron and the Common Loon are also seen frequently.

In spring, get your cameras ready and come take a look at the magnificent scenery around the peat bog where many flower species bloom in succession. Rhododendron, laurel and Labrador tea colour the edges of the trails, giving way to orchids in June.

Whether you're a beginner or a thrill seeker, you'll find something to suit you: easy trails to introduce the family to snowshoeing and intermediate trails to push your limits.

Depending on your preferences, choose from among five trails in the Southern sector, totaling more than 30 km round trip, or opt for the Saint-Daniel sector trail, featuring nearly 18 km round trip. An authentic experience to enjoy winter to the fullest!

Dogs are not allowed at all times in the Southern sector, and are not allowed in the Saint-Daniel sector during the winter period, from November 1 to April 30.

Trail access

During the winter period, vehicular traffic restrictions apply at the entrance of the sectors:

• Southern sector: The main road and parking lot will be cleared of snow as far as Southern Discovery and Visitors Centre. Accessible by vehicle, this service building is the departure and arrival point for all winter circuits. The entrance to the building remains unlocked at all times, providing access to toilets and drinking water. No service on site.
• Saint-Daniel sector: Park your car along the main road, near the gate located at the entrance of the sector. Put on your snowshoes and take the main road to the Littoral trail (8 km one way). No service on site.

Period: mid-December to the end of March

Southern sector

Located about 10 minutes from the entrance to the Saint-Daniel sector, this ramp is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and light boating (rowboats and small motorboats on trailers).

In order to make its trails accessible to persons with reduced mobility, Parc national de Frontenac has acquired outdoor equipment for persons with reduced mobility. The equipment can be rented free of charge at the rental centre upon presentation of the CAL card and upon availability.

• Trackz wheelchair: adapted light all-terrain wheelchair for enjoyment of outdoor activities. It is recommended for an active person who can move about in a wheelchair without assistance (available in summer).
• WaterWheel: wheelchair suitable for swimming and sand (available in summer).
• Trident watercraft: floating board designed to provide stability and accommodate a wheelchair and an assitant in the back (available in summer).
• Beach mat: an access mat that facilitates the passage of wheelchairs, pedestrians or strollers on a flat surface (available in summer).

This equipment is available exclusively at the Saint-Daniel Visitors Centre.

Mythiques, mystérieuses, méconnues et souvent mal-aimées, les chauves-souris ont acquis une mauvaise réputation. Or, elles sont des animaux étonnants d’une grande diversité et dotés de capacités d’adaptation remarquables!

Si elles sont très discrètes, les chauves-souris du monde entier travaillent fort chaque nuit et doivent affronter des menaces constantes. Venez découvrir cet animal étrange et fascinant, qui contribue de manière vitale à l’équilibre environnemental.

Le Grand lac Saint François regorge de vie ! C’est peut-être difficile à voir, mais si on se penche un peu, c’est tout un monde qui se dévoile sous nos yeux. Au-delà de la ouananiche et du doré jaune, il y a une grande variété d’invertébrés et de petites bestioles. Ils sont les piliers de la diversité aquatique de notre beau lac. Viens essayer de les observer, à travers l’aquascope!

Les parcs nationaux constituent des lieux privilégiés pour prendre contact avec les étoiles et la beauté de la nuit. Le parc national de Frontenac est d’ailleurs en voie de devenir le 2e parc international de ciel étoilé au Québec. We’re inviting youth groups of all ages (including from day camps, playgrounds, scouts, cadets, youth centres, daycares, etc.) to come and connect with nature! Parc national de Frontenac is open from mid-May to mid-October, whether for hiking, equipment rental, or a nature stay. Young people are being offered the chance to explore an extraordinary natural and protected environment through activities that get them moving and thinking.

Nature stay

Southern sector: 

• Canoe-camping package: total of 6 platforms (total capacity of 24 people)
• Baie Sauvage campground: 18 semi-serviced campsites (total capacity 108 people)

Saint-Daniel sector:

• Baie aux Rats-Musqués campground: 14 semi-serviced campsites (odd-numbered sites), (total capacity 84 people)

Fun and games

Supervised swimming (Saint-Daniel sector only): swim under the watchful eye of our team of lifeguards. For detailed rental centre schedules, see the Information section.

Watercraft rentals: up to 50% off watercraft rentals (discounts apply according to the period).

Hiking: free access for groups of young people aged 17 and under and their companions.

This venue is located just steps away from the unsupervised beach, the playground, the equipment rental centre, and the bicycle path. No doubt that your guests will enjoy an unforgettable day of outdoor activities with, as a bonus, one of the most beautiful views of Grand lac Saint-François!

• Three-sided hall open to the outside
• Available for the day (from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.) or half-day (from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)

• Would you like to offer alcoholic beverages to participants at your event? To do so, you'll need to obtain a Meeting permit (Permis de réunion "pour servir") from the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (RACJ). This is subject to approval by the park 48 hours before your event.
• Cancellation policy: 72 working hours or less before the event, otherwise the full amount will be charged
