Hiking

Nearly 125 km of trails crisscross this huge land area. On the island, hiking takes several forms: a walk along the shore or through a canyon with towering rock faces, a fascinating exploration of a cave or an outing in a boreal forest.

Why not take advantage of your stay on Anticosti Island to visit the Chute Vauréal waterfall sector? It’s worth the detour! Bring a lunch and wear good walking shoes.

Day Fishing

When you stay in Anticosti with a summer vacation package, you can go day fishing on one of the lakes or fish with waders on one of the rivers. It is very important to know that day fishing is a quota-based activity and subject to certain conditions related to weather and water levels, among other factors. This activity should therefore not be the main objective of your visit to the island.

To reserve a day of fishing, you can radio or go in person to the McDonald Centre at 3:30 p.m. the day before. An agent will be pleased to help you. Remember that...if Mother Nature's in the mood, the fishing will be good...but not necessarily miraculous!

The School of Nature

A place for conservation and education, Parc national d'Anticosti is a laboratory in a natural setting. Come to class with our dedicated park wardens or welcome them to your school! The beauty, integrity, and cultural/historical characteristics of this territory have inspired three recreational/educational activities. Aimed at young people in elementary or high school, these activities will help them get in touch with their environment, make them understand its fragility, and take them through a memorable real-world experience...

Auberge McDonald

This lodge is located at sea level 105 km from Port-Menier. It's on the north shore of the McDonald River at its mouth. From here on, the scenery is a happy marriage of land and sea. The road winds along the shoreline, composed of bays, capes, and sandy shores. The McDonald offers a real sense of peaceful living, in harmony with nature. Peter McDonald's grave is on the grounds of the lodge. He lived here over 100 years ago.

Guests stay under the American plan with the "bring your own wine" formula. To avoid overweight luggage, we encourage you to buy your wine and liquor at the Port-Menier grocer-butcher store (CFIC).

Le Wilcox

This seaside campground overlooks a shipwreck of the same name. It's 1 km from Pointe-Carleton and 118 km from Port-Menier. It has 20 sites that can each accommodate a tent with 4 to 6 people. Campers have access to washroom facilities with showers. There are no electrical outlets in the washroom facility buildings.
