Major Research Orientations at Parc national d'Oka

Having extensive knowledge of the parks to better preserve them is the foundation that justifies the efforts invested in inventories, monitoring programs and scientific research.  At Parc national d'Oka, the wide variety of ecosystems promotes a very rich array of plants and animals. It enviable geographic position explains the presence of several plants and animals, including some that are vulnerable, threatened or likely to be so designated. Floristic inventories on this subject have helped us gain more knowledge on several of these species.

A number of specific knowledge-acquisition projects concerning the territory have taken place as well, but several topics remain to be explored. The park’s conservation team cannot meet research needs or fulfill research potential on its own, and this is why projects conducted on the outside, especially in conjunction with the university community and professional researchers are encouraged and prioritized, so as to provide park managers with as complete a portrait as possible of the natural environment under their wing.
