Since 2004, the Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program (EIMP) (see also the summary, in French only) has been implemented at Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie. A total of 23 indicators are monitored. Among them are those on the American Elm, a tree species that is rather unusual for the Charlevoix region and that is threatened by Dutch elm disease. This is a fungal disease that spreads through a tiny insect called the bark beetle. Our work aims to monitor the development of bark beetle populations in the park’s forests.
Another indicator focuses on the American marten, the park’s animal emblem. Monitoring this animal helps us learn more about its activities in the park.
After 10 years of field research, we are proud to present the first report on the evolution of the ecological integrity for Quebec’s National Parks. Access the entire findings of more than 370 surveys carried out through the Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program. We therefore invite you to go take a look at the results for your favorite parks! (You can also consult the report summary in English - see below).
