Ecological Integrity

The Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program at Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville

Since 2004, the Environmental Indicators Monitoring Program (EIMP) (see also the summary, in French only) has been implemented at Parc national des Iles-de-Boucherville. A total of 18 indicators are monitored. Among them are:

  • The narrow-leaved springbeauty, a plant species at risk. In Québec there are in fact only about thirty places where this species has been inventoried, including about a dozen observations dating back to over 25 years ago.
  • The brown snake, an animal species at risk. Since its home range is limited and its movements minimal, rather than moving when its habitat is destroyed, it is eliminated, which makes it an excellent bio-indicator.
  • Boisé Grosbois, an indicator of the quality of the park’s unique habitat. This wooded area is a sanctuary for plant species at risk.
