NOSE DIVE: Water Sniffing for Beginners

Québec City –We’re making all kinds of scents these days at Aquarium du Québec... Our new exhibit, EAU'DORAT: Water Sniffing for Beginners, will transport you into a very special marine universe. Thanks to our olfactory and sensory interpretation panel, you can sniff the scent of the St. Lawrence River, marshes, or fish products, and discover what polar bears and sharks perceive with their powerful sense of smell. Each scent is associated with a touchable texture representing an animal or a place in this captivating ecosystem.

This new educational experience was developed in collaboration with Quebec-based Stimulation Déjà Vu. Various raw materials were selected to create the olfactory combinations. These were laboratory-tested by Aquarium experts and young testers. The eight resulting creations are composed of synthetic and natural materials certified by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), the industry's highest regulatory standard.

These olfactory and sensory experiences are sure to thrill young and old alike. To get the scent, follow your nose to the first level of the Freshwater and Saltwater Pavilion right away.

Eco-friendly and educational Halloween activities

It's already October! Every weekend of the month, from October 7 to 29, as well as on Thanksgiving Monday, we're plunging into the Halloween atmosphere with amazing thematic activities! We'll be concocting magic potions to create eco-friendly bath bombs in Halloween colours, a fun way to limit marine plastic pollution. You'll make a splash by handling all sorts of slightly "disgusting" creatures for an insect naturalization activity, a great way to learn more about their importance in aquatic environments.

As a bonus, you'll be told a slightly scary story about Aurelia aurita (moon jellyfish). The Aquarium tale Panique qui pique au fond du Saint-Laurent (panic stings at the bottom of the St. Lawrence) is sure to please the small fry as they discover the strange world of jellyfish.
