Five superb fishing‑camping destinations
A collaboration with fishing enthusiast Émile David.
Camping and fishing are to the outdoors what peanut butter and jam are to toast: essentials which once combined, produce a richness and flexibility that satisfy one and all. This is what gives Sépaq destinations a variety of flavours for camping and fishing alike.
Here’s a selection of the best fishing-camping products offered throughout the network.
Réserve faunique La Vérendrye
Canoe-camping and fishing
Réserve faunique La Vérendrye is by far the largest territory administered by Sépaq. It covers 12,589 km2, 4,000 lakes and rivers, and two huge reservoirs, earning the reserve the title of “canoe-camper’s paradise.” This activity is managed by Canot-Camping La Vérendrye, which maintains over 25 circuits of varying difficulty levels and of a duration ranging from one to ten days. Once you’ve paid your canoe-camping and fishing access fees and you’ve got your provincial fishing licence, you can experience a total immersion into nature and explore the reserve’s countless islands and sandy shorelines, while enjoying your catch of tasty pike and walleye along the way.
Réserve faunique La Vérendrye
À la carte fishing and camping
For those anglers out there who prefer fishing boats to canoes, Réserve faunique La Vérendrye also offers four serviced campgrounds in the territory. Baie-des-Sables, Lac-Rapide, Rivière-des-Outaouais and Savary sectors offer basic campsites that are ideal for both tent camping and for trailers and campervans. Keep in mind that most waterways are accessible for personal watercraft, but that you can also rent a Sépaq vessel!
Réserve faunique des Laurentides
Camping La Loutre: ideal for families
Easily reached by car, Camping La Loutre is located only an hour away from Québec City and features a variety of lakes teeming with fish. A large community hall was recently built at the campground which now hosts a vast array of activities for the family. A new playground was also added to make the adventure that much more pleasant for visitors of all ages. The package includes fishing, a two- or three-service campsite, and a watercraft.
Réserve faunique Mastigouche
Camping and speckled trout are at centre stage
Camping-fishing at Réserve faunique de Mastigouche is a winning formula for two reasons. Firstly, a new package was recently introduced that allows you to fish in the lakes adjacent to your campground. This is a simple way to add fishing to your camping stay. Secondly, there are numerous all-star lakes featuring plenty of large-sized trout. These lakes are included in day fishing packages by way of the annual telephone random draw held in April. If you luck out, then camping is an excellent option for getting in as much fishing as you can.
Fishing and ready-to-camp
For those anglers among you who don’t have the necessary camping gear but wouldn’t miss this adventure for the world, Sépaq’s ready-to-camp tents are all you need. At wildlife reserves and national parks alike, it’s possible to combine this type of accommodation with daily fishing access. If you’re looking to blend a fishing experience with a ready-to-camp stay, the most alluring destinations are Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin, Parc national des Grands-Jardins, Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice, Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, and Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle.
