Skiing the peaks of Gaspésie

The majestic Chic-Chocs mountain range is a renowned destination for lovers of beautiful powder snow. An outdoor outing in this exceptional territory does, however, come with certain responsibilities as a visitor. Here's everything you need to know for a successful winter day excursion.

Alpine touring skiing

Within a fifteen-kilometre radius of the Discovery and Visitors Centre (Mont-Albert sector), a variety of daily options for alpine touring skiing, snowboarding and telemark skiing are available in Parc national de la Gaspésie and in Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs.

However, there are few, if any, marked trails in the off-trail skiing sectors. You are responsible for your own navigation and safety.

Snowshoeing

Against the backdrop of a winter wonderland, snowshoe buffs can enjoy many trails in Parc national de la Gaspésie and on the territory of Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs.

Cross-country skiing and backcountry skiing

Parc national de la Gaspésie offers 3 groomed cross-country ski trails. The park receives over 3 meters of snow annually, making for excellent conditions all winter long.

Backcountry skiing enthusiasts will also find something to suit them, thanks to a range of short hikes and long hikes with overnight stays in huts.

The ultimate snowy experience

The Mountain School offers the very best tools to answer the call of the snow-covered peaks! On site, you’ll find information to plan your day, while being able to exchange tips with other skiers in a spirit of sharing and discovery. Guided activities are also offered to help you explore the snow-covered trails:

Mont-Albert cabins

Located in the heart of Parc national de la Gaspésie, eighteen cabins with traditional charm surround Gîte du Mont-Albert. They are built on one or two floors and include a fireplace or a wood stove. These cabins can accommodate from 4 to 8 people.

Lac-Sainte-Anne cabins

These cabins in Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs are located by majestic Lac Sainte-Anne. What a terrific location! You can literally step out of your cabin on skis or snowshoes and climb Vallières-de-Saint-Réal!

The mountains surrounding the cabins offer a fairy-tale setting for snowshoeing-excursion and alpine-touring enthusiasts. You’ll simply drive a few minutes from the cabins, then set off to conquer Hog's Back and Lyall mountains.

Mont-Albert huts

These accessible and affordable accommodations are located near Mont-Albert. You’ll find eight beds, a table, chairs, and a wood stove. Please bring everything you need to prepare meals.
