Pointe Opémican sector

Driving directions from Route 101 (in French only)

From Montreal (via Ontario):

  • Take Autoroute 40 to Highway 417 towards Ottawa. Continue on Highway 417, which will become Highway 17 near Arnprior. Continue on Highway 17 to Mattawa. In Mattawa, take Highway 533 and turn right on Highway 63 to Témiscamingue. In Témiscamingue, follow Route 101N for 25 km. Turn left on Chemin Opémican; after approximately 2 km turn left at the first intersection to stay on chemin Opémican. Follow the signs to the Visitors’ Centre.

From Montreal (via Abitibi):

  • Take Autoroute 15 Nord to St-Agathe des Monts. then continue on Route 117 to Route 101 Sud. Next, follow Route 101 to Laniel. Continue for 25 km on the 101 Sud. Turn right on Chemin Opémican; after approximately 2 km turn left at the first intersection to stay on chemin Opémican. Follow the signs to the Visitors’ Centre.

Rivière-Kipawa sector

From Montréal (via Ontario):

  • Take Highway 40 to Highway 417 in the direction of Ottawa. Continue on Highway 417, which will become Highway 17 at Arnprior. Continue on Highway 17 to Mattawa. In Mattawa, take Highway 533 and turn right on Highway 63 to Témiscaming. In Témiscaming, take Route 101N to Laniel. The Visitors’ Centre in Laniel is across from the public dock, close to the damn; the entrance to the parking lot is just as you come into the village.

From Montreal (via Abitibi):

  • Take Autoroute 15 north to St-Agathe des Monts. Then continue on Route 117 to Route 101 S. Next, follow Route 101 S to Laniel. The Visitors’ Centre in Laniel is across from the public dock, close to the damn; the entrance to the parking lot is just as you come into the village.

Additional Information

To better plan your activities, please note the operational periods for each sector.

In winter, the park remains accessible on foot or with snowshoes. From mid-October to mid-June, the Visitors’ Centre along with all other buildings as well as the washrooms are closed. During this same period, the trails are not maintained. Only the parking lot at the Administrative Building in the Pointe-Opémican sector is open. You must purchase your daily access pass online. During this period, you can also each us by email at parc.opemican@sepaq.com.

Self Registration
When the Pointe-Opémican Visitors Centre and the Laniel registration centre are closed, customers must pay their entry fee (cash only) using the self-payment terminal or by purchasing their daily access online.

Pets

Since May 17, 2019, dogs are allowed. However, they are only allowed in certain areas. Check out the applicable rules and authorized sites.

Guide dogs and service dogs are allowed everywhere. Other pets are still prohibited in national parks.
