A wave of love for employees

Portraits that get people talking

With the Behind the Scenes at Sépaq project, social media advisor Rosalie Parent meets Sépaq employees to talk about their experience in the field and to learn more about the variety of jobs available in the network.

Of course, the photos posted online are magnificent! But above all, these authentic moments between employees are an opportunity to show fans of Québec's national parks what goes on backstage.

In fact, since the series began, every new Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn post creates a heartwarming wave of love and recognition. We decided to go behind the scenes…heading backstage at Sépaq to unravel the mystery behind this popular content project.

A surprising first project

In January 2023, Rosalie joined Sépaq, never imagining that her first project would create such a buzz. "This project is my baby! I knew it had great potential on social networks... but not this much! I'm still amazed by the public response," she says.

Meetings with establishment managers, coordination with photographers, adapting to unforeseen weather conditions... months of planning led to her first outing to Parc national d'Oka in June.

As the seasons went by, the beautiful encounters piled up. "When I go on site, I find the people really happy and nice. Even with the shy ones, I never feel that the conversation about their experience is forced," recounts the advisor.

Stories you can't make up

She remembers a breathtaking sunrise at the peak of Mont Saint-Joseph, in Parc national du Mont-Mégantic. That morning, she had an appointment with Josée, a housekeeper, who confessed to taking the time to connect with the beauty of nature while on the job.

"It's these sorts of little moments that I’d like the public to experience," explains Rosalie. She wants to capture the essence of each person she meets: name them, tell their anecdotes, and let their personality shine through… not just their profession.

With Jean, a registration centre receptionist at Réserve faunique des Laurentides, she was treated to quite an experience: "He's a character… always cracking jokes and making puns! Meeting him was really fun!”

Sépaq is a huge organization," she continues. “With this project, we're showcasing employees that visitors don't have the chance to get to know." The employee of the hour could be someone with a unique life story; someone who excels in their profession; someone who's been with Sépaq for decades; or even someone who's just arrived and already stands out to customers.

Reaching the general public

Each time a new publication is launched in the virtual world, the positive reactions quickly pour in. “The people featured receive huge waves of love," declares Rosalie. “Customers recognize and remember this or that person; they say, ‘I've been seeing this employee for 10 years and I can't wait to see him or her again this summer!’"

In the comments section, messages are addressed directly to the person photographed, including touching words of thanks. "It's very rewarding for the employees," Rosalie continues. “The public's involvement is a wonderful form of recognition for Sépaq's staff.”

The social media advisor admits it: she likes these " content bites" to show all the little touches behind a successful nature experience: Who prepares the hut on the mountain? Who patrols the trails? Who cleans up the ready-to-camp unit? Who takes care of the rental equipment?

Behind the Scenes at Sépaq is a project that showcases the network's people and professions. Those who take part are proud to tell their stories, and the team Rosalie is part of is proud to celebrate them. "Meeting them in the field is super enriching. Sépaq people are really passionate, and some of them have been here for such a long time," she exclaims.

The passion of colleagues in the parks and wildlife reserves, the enthusiasm of the public on social networks, touching moments time and time again... it's no wonder that the project, which was only supposed to last one summer, is continuing into 2024.
