Réserve faunique La Vérendrye

Over 800 lakes are accessible for fishing. They have walleye, lake trout, northern pike, speckled trout, smallmouth bass, and sturgeon. Some lakes are accessible only by ATV or 4X4.

Several places allow you to combine camping and fishing. The fishing-camping activity is offered to campers who have a boat.

With more than 800 km of developed trails, the territory of Réserve faunique La Vérendrye has the largest canoe-camping offer in Québec! Nearly 20 lakefront circuits, punctuated by 500 overnight campsites, are available for a major expedition in this stunningly beautiful natural setting.

Depending on the time of summer, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and mushrooms are abundantly available on the reserve's territory. 
This activity can be practiced free of charge.

Period: July and August

It's possible to hunt the following small game species: Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migratory birds if you have a migratory game bird hunting permit in addition to a small game hunting licence.

ATVs are allowed for hunting in certain sectors. Some restrictions apply.

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their right of access online. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare.

IMPORTANT: roads are no longer maintained as of mid-November.

All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are allowed only on trails, unnumbered roads and tertiary roads (roads with 3 numbers).

• October 10, 2024 to January 15, 2025

Réserve faunique La Vérendrye belongs to provincial hunting zones 12 and 13. Moose hunting is limited by quota in the reserve and is subject to random draw. The territory is divided into about fifty hunting sectors.

Density: slightly above 3.5 moose/10 km²

NB: At the request of the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs du Québec, there will be no random draw for the fall 2025 moose sport hunt for Réserve faunique La Vérendrye.

Hunting statistics

Since autumn 2002, there has been open hunting of white-tailed deer in the southern portion of the wildlife reserve. Hunting territories have an average area of 126 km².

Map and conditions of trails

Children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a day fishing right of access, are allowed to fish for free.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a small game hunting right of access for the day, are allowed to hunt for free.

In addition, children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.
