Park Experience

On the Frontiers of the North

Dominating the landscape of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region from 984 m in altitude, Parc national des Monts-Valin offers a multitude of year-round outdoor activities. Hiking, vacationing with cabin accommodations, fishing on lakes or rivers, canoe-camping and canoeing are the featured summer activities. Several packages are available.

In the winter, exceptional snow cover transforms this area into a mecca for snowshoeing, short or long backcountry skiing treks and cross country skiing. Soak up the peace and silence of Vallée des Fantômes and, surrounded by mummies on Pic de la Hutte, experience the harsh climate.

Discover the Park Through Interpretation

Parc national des Monts-Valin has the potential to inspire wonder! And the best way is to participate in our discovery activities (in French only). Through the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage, you’ll learn more about the park and the importance of protecting it.

Among the riches we hope to share is the impact of altitude on the distribution of vegetation and wildlife. You can also discover northern-type flora forged by the rigors of harsh winters in the valley.

To guide us in developing our discovery activities, all the parks have an education plan.

Discovery and Visitors Centre

During your time at the park, don’t miss a visit to the Discovery and Visitors Centre. You’ll discover the permanent exhibition, At the Northern Frontier, presenting the main characteristics of the natural region protected and enhanced by the park. The model of the mountainous massif, the herbarium and the multimedia presentations will make you want to explore the park’s natural treasures. The permanent exhibition is open the same dates and times as the Discovery and Visitors Centre.
