Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin
Accessible and rewarding activities
You’ll be hooked when you discover the amazing variety of fish! Lake trout, walleye, pike and brook trout are only a few of the species available for your fishing pleasure.
Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin abounds with wildlife: moose, deer, hare, ruffed grouse, and so much more. Take advantage of your visit to do some wildlife watching with the kids! You can also rent a canoe, a kayak or a stand-up paddleboard at the La Macaza and Saint-Michel registration centres and paddle to placid lakes, ideal for family water activities. Jamet, Cinq doigts, Mosquic, Odelin – you can choose any one of these lakes to spend a day filled with pleasure and discovery. If the family likes ATV quad biking, we know just the spot: a 94 km-long federated trail crosses the reserve from west to east connecting the Laurentides and Lanaudière regions.
The wildlife reserve is also a mere 45 minutes or so away from Lac Monroe in Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, featuring water activities, badminton, volleyball, petanque, horseshoes, croquet, and more. A few kilometres away by car, you will be able to explore the P’tit Train du Nord bike path in the La Macaza sector.
Come fall, you can introduce your youngsters aged 12 and older to hunting traditions. Orange vest-clad and hunting rifle in hand, watch out for ruffed grouse, spruce grouse and snowshoe hare if you’re looking for small game. Fancy a more imposing beast? Why not head off to hunt some moose or deer.
