New activities with our fish

Clownfish, garden eels, stingrays, North Atlantic fish (pollock, halibut, spotted wolffish), and the fish that inhabit our Awesome Ocean Basin are fascinating in so many ways. The Artika polar adventure is back at the Aquarium, just in time for the summer season. As of May 18, 2024, you'll once again be able to discover the beauties of the Arctic, through our immersive projection. A new ice sculpture will also make its appearance in our polar container.

Watching on the big screen, young and old alike will be able to admire polar bears, narwhals, walruses, beluga whales, arctic foxes, and so many other species that live in this corner of the globe. Images captured in the wild and projected onto three-metre-high walls illustrate the richness and fragility of the Arctic. To add to the realism, the sensation of cold is reproduced, even in summer.

New ice sculpture

For this 2nd edition, sculptor Nicolas Godon has created a majestic ice polar bear to grace our polar container. Taking photos with the world's largest land predator has never been so easy! A mural in Arctic colours has also been added.

Polar relaxation zone

Once again this year, small igloos to entertain the little ones and a relaxation area for a bite to eat have been set up in the Artika area.
Whether you want to admire the species that live in the Arctic, take a selfie in our polar container, or enjoy a cool breeze in the middle of a heatwave, there's every reason to come and see Artika.

Scientific shark escape game

Our educator will plunge you into a scientific mission where you'll have to solve various riddles to succeed in your challenge and discover an unusual sense in sharks.

• When: Saturdays and Sundays
• Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Where: Nordet
• N.B. This activity is for children aged 10 and over.

With EAU'DORAT: Water Sniffing for Beginners, enjoy an olfactory and sensory experience linked to the marine world. Smell the St. Lawrence, marshes, and fish products, and discover the odour of a shark or polar bear. Each scent is associated with a touchable texture representing an animal or a place in this captivating ecosystem. Come and discover our olfactory and sensory interpretation panel.

• Where: first level of the Freshwater and Saltwater Pavilion

The Deep Sea Pavilion is aptly named. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be immersed in the dark, to better admire the captivating beauty of the jellyfish. Then, the seahorses and sea dragons will charm you. A large pool, populated by Atlantic stingrays, closes the visit of this pavilion. And as a delightful touch, you’ll be able to stroke the soft skin of these beautiful ladies of the sea, under the watchful eye of our macaw!

The Deep Sea Pavilion is not accessible with a stroller, but an outdoor parking is provided at this location.

• Indoor activity

Upon entering the Freshwater and Saltwater Pavilion, you’ll discover a multitude of fish from here and elsewhere. You’ll also enjoy amazing encounters with leopard sharks, scorpion fish, our octopus, and our blue lobster. In the coastal zone, you can touch the sea urchins and starfish in the company of our animal guide. And you can top off the visit by diving into our new immersive adventure projection entitled ImMERsion.

• Indoor activity

Polar bears

Our polar bears, Kinuk and Shouka, have a new roommate: Humphrey! He was born on November 9, 2013 at the Toronto Zoo, to his mother, Aurora, and father, Inukshuk. While he weighed just 700 grams at birth, today he weighs 1,200 pounds! He's known for his curious, playful nature. In fact, he loves to roll around in the dirt. His adaptation is going wonderfully well in his new habitat at the Aquarium, with his furry companions.

Arctic foxes

Three magnificent Arctic foxes recently arrived at the Aquarium from the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien. Joséphine, Léonie, and René are nearly five years old. We can't get enough of watching these clever and mischievous creatures as they play!

Seals

Our four harbour seals and three harp seals are fast, agile swimmers. Excellent divers, they love fish and invertebrates. These seals are used to the polar cold, so for them basking in the sun is a real treat.

As impressive as ever, with its 350,000 liters of water, the Awesome  Ocean is getting a makeover - or rather, new fins! Our fish collection has been almost entirely renewed. In a process as fascinating as it is rare, our team of divers has introduced a number of new semi-tropical species: rock crappie, green calicagere, señorita, blacksmith damsel, black surf perch and many other specimens with equally exotic names. These newcomers will stand alongside the tank's star species: leopard sharks.

Hundreds of animated animals will parade before your eyes in our immersive projection room. Eels, polar bears, walruses, Greenland sharks, sperm whales, and giant squid await you. Watch out for the whale that swallows you! Dive into the adventure with us!

A pathway to adventure for young adventurers! There are nets, catwalks, gangplanks, vines, and so on. A way to develop balance and self-reliance while burning up energy!

• Outdoor activity

Purchase souvenirs that reflect the image of Aquarium du Québec and the animals it houses by visiting our boutique. Decorative items, clothing, jewelry, books, postcards, photos, toys, original and exclusive corporate gifts… all sorts of delightful discoveries await you! Open year-round and located in the reception pavilion, our boutique is accessible even if you don't have your membership or a daily ticket.

The water games are an aquatic paradise for kids! They are very much appreciated on hot days. Water jets, interactive water canons, and amusing characters will delight the children ... and adults!

Locker rooms are available near the water games to put on your swimsuit.

• Outdoor activity

Schedule: May 31 to September 2024

This restaurant is inside L'Atrium in the main building and offers sandwiches, homemade salads, beverages, frozen desserts, and basic shopping items.

Located in the wetland sector, it serves beverages and frozen treats such as slush and ice cream.

The restaurant boasts a terrace and a superb view of the St. Lawrence River and the Québec bridges. With a cafeteria-style layout,  it offers poutines, pizzas, children's menus, appetizing salads, beverages and more.

The Aquavan at your school or at the daycamp!

Here’s an extraordinary opportunity to discover Aquarium du Québec in your school or at the daycamp thanks to our brand-new Aquavan educational vehicle! An animal guide is on hand to introduce you to many of the Aquarium's animal species. Turtles, starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, jellyfish, and anemones will be on the discovery agenda.

You could receive financial assistance depending on your project. Fees may be reimbursed (entry fees and transportation costs, for example) for scientific culture workshops held at your school and for organized student visits to scientific culture organizations.
