What happened to the fish?

Since October 2022, the Aquarium team has undertaken a renewal of the Awesome Ocean collection. However, a collection change isn’t made with a single stroke of a magic wand! It’s a rare and rather complex process. One must be patient.

The project in 5 steps

Step 1: Capture

A deep dive is made into the Awesome Ocean to capture the hundred or so fish therein. The specimens are transferred to other tanks of the Aquarium or to other institutions.

Stage 2: Arrival of new species

Semi-tropical species, coming from the Pacific, by way of Southern California, arrive at the Aquarium. The fish must be placed in a quarantine tank to ensure that they don’t carry diseases or parasites that could contaminate other fish.

Step 3: Adjust the setting

The settings, algae, and Awesome Ocean tank have to be thoroughly cleaned. A sandy zone is also set up to allow certain species to bury themselves overnight to rest.

Step 4: Introduce the fish

The fish are introduced gradually, according to their size, to avoid any predation in their ranks.

Step 5: Ensure the well-being of the fish

Our specialists must ensure that the newly introduced fish are feeding well and adapting to their environment. This step is crucial and posed some challenges for us. A persistent parasite came along to trouble us, forcing us to treat all the fish that had already been placed in the tank.

Small fish will become big fish!

In this process, the fish are not introduced at full maturity. They’ll grow bigger over the next few months. Once the renewal of the collection is completed, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the fish.
