Tricks of the trade

Catching walleye "on the fly”

Alexis is in walleye paradise: Réserve faunique La Vérendrye. He shares his best fly fishing tips for an excellent catch.

Catching speckled trout in lakes

Alexis catches a whole lot of speckled trout in lakes and gives us basic advice to put all the chances on our side. We’ll learn how to adapt to the conditions, the light, the environment, and everything happening on the surface of the water all day long. The idea? To be on the lookout for the smallest details that could give us precious clues as to the feeding habits of those clever trout. Then we’ll choose our lure accordingly.

Speckled trout in rivers

When trout fishing in rivers, the first thing to do is to identify the finest fishing sites. To better find them, Alexis recommends using tools such as Avenza Maps. Once on site, you can look for precious clues as to what lures are needed to snag more of those wily fish.

Tip: You fish in a lake? Refer to the bathymetric maps developed by our teams, which you can download right here.

Surface fishing for pike

Alexis' new mission: to surface fish for pike. To do so, he’s heading to Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan. What gear to choose, what fishing techniques to adopt, and which areas of the lake not to miss? Alexis shares his best tips to maximize your chances of catching some good-sized pike.

Trolling for walleye

Even for the most seasoned anglers, it can be difficult to know where walleye are hiding, especially on a first trip to a waterway. In such conditions, Alexis advises us to use a sonar and to choose trolling. It's a little less active fishing, but it's a winning strategy to maximize our chances of reeling in a good catch. So, let's start the trolling season on a high note!

Two-fly trout fishing

Still in Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan, Alexis is now aiming to fish for speckled trout at the beginning of the season. His best trick: fishing with two flies! Amazing, isn't it? Discover how this experienced angler manages to take advantage of his gear and the clues offered on the lake to catch splendid trout.
