Chasse Québec: the web series
Now it's time for real hunting adventures presented in an exciting and immersive format! Each episode of this series will take you on one of Michel Therrien's personal hunting adventures with his team of experienced guides… as if you were there.
Episode 1: Black Bear Hunting
It’s time to celebrate Quebec's national holiday, and Saint-Jean-Baptiste also means black bear breeding season! Michel Therrien comes to Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan, in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, for a special hunting weekend. By his side is Stéphanie Vadnais, for whom this will be a first black bear hunting experience, and Pierre-Luc Fontaine, who will try to harvest his first game animal with a bow and arrow using a special technique, the bear call. An episode full of twists and turns where the bears were very cooperative indeed. The tasty bear meat harvested in this episode was prepared as sausage, roast, steak, and ground meat, all popular foods at summer barbecues. (Video in French only)
Episode 2: moose hunting
Hunting guide Pierre-Luc Fontaine and his group head to Réserve faunique de Rimouski during the pre-rut period to hunt down the forest king. This is recognized as one of the best moose hunting grounds due to its exceptional average density of animals per km2. Despite the difficult conditions, this hunting trip was a great success. Check out the story of the adventure (video in French only).
Small game hunting tips: the equipment
Michel Therrien from Chasse Quebec offers his best tips to be well equipped for small game hunting (video in French only).
Episode 3: Small game hunting
Small game hunting, hunting school… an ideal opportunity to get together and explore the woods with the people you love. Straddling the moose and deer hunting seasons, Michel Therrien arrives at Réserve faunique des Laurentides with his spouse and a pair of friends. Together, they’ll embark on a quest that will lead to many questions: What are we eating for dinner? How do you distinguish a male grouse from a female grouse? All the answers and much more in this episode full of pleasure, feathers, and fur. (Video in French only)
Episode 4: Late Moose Hunting
It’s the end of October, three weeks after the end of the rut. The moose hunting season is over everywhere in Quebec… Everywhere? No! A final contingent of diehard hunters is resisting the cold winter weather that’s come earlier than expected to try once again to harvest the king of the forest. And the experience of late hunting will be thrilling for those hunters spread across the Matane, Rimouski, and Chic-Chocs wildlife reserves. Michel Therrien is with his big brother Carl-Éric, as well as a hunting group consisting of Jean-Pierre, a mutual friend, and Paul and Jean, two veteran hunters. High winds, a hunting high, and high hopes are on tap for this last episode of the Chasse Québec season one web series.
About Chasse Québec: the web series
Presented by Sépaq, the series heads out to discover the main game found at Quebec's wildlife reserves: black bear and small game, as well as moose in pre-rut and during late hunting. Filled with anecdotes and advice, the series is aimed at both an insider audience and at budding hunters. Each episode presents hunting with sobriety and modesty from a complete perspective; because beyond the harvest of an animal, there are all those moments of emotion, feasts of partridge and liver, camp stories, learning experiences, firsts, and a mosaic of successful or failed attempts: all the joys, trials, and tribulations that life in the woods offers us all.
