Featured Summer Discovery Activities

Travelers seeking discoveries will be enchanted by the natural settings of our national parks. A number of discovery activities are proposed at the parks, developed specifically to highlight their natural and cultural heritage. The best part of all this? These activities are offered free of charge for youngsters 17 years of age and younger in the company of their family.

Here are some suggestions for summer activities designed to satisfy all those curious folks, regardless of their age.

Discover the Grosbois marsh

Kayaking by night

Paddle the calm waters of Lac des Deux-Montagnes in peace at night and suddenly take a fresh look at what surrounds you. A park warden and naturalist will be happy to help you discover this enchanting environment. Details (in French only)

Under the giant rocks

Be among the lucky ones who get to visit rock shelters with a park warden and naturalist. Let yourself be guided through unusual passages made up of immense boulders covered with a thousand shades of moss carpets. Daytime astronomy activity
At the heart of the world’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, the park offers a vast array of astronomy activities. The ideal enriching experience! Discover new activities during your daytime visit to ASTROLab, including the film Émergence: l’évolution cosmique, a 4K projection and virtual reality experience in the solar system! Étang-Fer-de-Lance trail

A pleasant stroll in a maple grove that will take you to an observation deck offering a magnificent panoramic view of Étang Fer-de-Lance and the Mont-Orford mountain range. The turtle with the hooked beak!

Since the snapping turtle is the new animal emblem of Parc national de Plaisance, a talk in its honour has been organized to introduce you to this great predator of our waters. Details (in French only)

Parc national de Frontenac

Guided hike at La Tourbière peat bog

The peat bog of Saint-Daniel sector is one of the few intact areas of its kind in southern Québec. It’s home to carnivorous plants and several rare orchids. La tourbière trail is built on boardwalks, and there are two observation towers for people to discover this fascinating place, where surprising flora and fauna thrive and the history of the glacial climate of days long past is plain for all to see! Details (in French only)

The whole family is invited to Anse à Wilson beach to discover the coastline and its intriguing organisms, capable of living half their lives submerged by the sea and the other half in the open air. Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata

A strange discovery

Discover clues and buried objects, ask the right questions, pass your tests, and you may very well unearth the mystery surrounding a strange discovery. This simulated excavation activity is ideal for families who cannot participate in archaeological excavations or for those who want to understand more about how an archaeologist deciphers an archaeological site once the excavation is completed. Details (in French only)

Parc national de l’Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé

Buccaneer Duval rally

An island, a map, a buccaneer – everything you need to discover the treasure. Here's a very exciting discovery-rally, to be completed at your family’s own pace.  The first part takes place on Des Colonies trail, and the second, when returning, on Chemin-du-Roy. Details (in French only)

Parc national d’Aiguebelle

Matissard for an evening

The star excursion of the Abijévis campground, this twilight stroll is an excellent way to surprise the wildlife of the lake in full activity in the company of a park warden and naturalist. Aboard your canoe, let yourself be enchanted by the calm and beauty of the setting and discover the riches of this clay lake. Details (in French only)

Parc national de Miguasha

Calling all fossil hunters!

The fossil hunt is open! A visit to the sandbox is an opportunity for the little ones and their parents to burrow away and try to discover the fossil fish casts buried there. Take up your shovels and trowels and dig! Details (in French only)

Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon

Nature rally

Take part in our GPS-guided nature rally along the park's bike path (6 km section). This activity is a stimulating educational game for the whole family that will enrich your discovery of Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon.
