In the wildlife reserve, several lakes are reserved for users who are staying in cabins. Speckled trout can be fished here. Get ready: in 2010, one lake will be reserved for fly-fishing only.

Salmon

Rivière Port-Daniel is a real gem for fly-fishing buffs. Each day, 4 anglers have access to the river.

On the territory of Réserve faunique de Port-Daniel, the moose herd has grown in recent years. The wildlife reserve belongs to provincial zone #1. Moose hunting is limited by quota, the limit being one moose per group of 3 or 4 hunters. Nonetheless, during several stays, a group of 6 to 8 hunters will have a chance to harvest 2 animals. All of these groups may also enter their names for the random draw for female moose. The draw will take place when you arrive and will allow one hunter in your group to harvest a female. In 2009, the hunting success rate stood at 90%.

Generally, hunting access rights are assigned by random draw. But some may remain available because a winner has accepted another one at another time or place.

Hunting statistics

Sign up for the random draw. On top of hunting white-tailed deer, you'll have an opportunity to hunt small game at the same time. Take advantage of this offer and you'll have access to a great hunting territory. Also ask about family hunting.

Hunters can harvest the following species of small game: Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migratory birds if you have a migratory game bird hunting permit in addition to a small game hunting licence.

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their right of access on line or at the reserve. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare.

This activity is offered only on a by-the-day basis and the hunters must prepare their site themselves. Reserve directly at the reserve by calling 418 396-2232.

Réserve faunique Port-Daniel is especially known for day fishing of salmon. Day fishing fans  (speckled trout) have access to 7 lakes with boats provided by Sépaq. Short gently sloping natural trails enable people in wheelchairs to access Lac Petit Mécampec, Lac Grand Mécampec, and Lac Pabos.

You can reserve a lake in different ways.

• Plan your fishing days up to 4 months in advance so that you can add 1 or 2 days of fishing during your vacation.
• When you arrive, make the most of your day fishing by reserving your lake one day in advance, at the registration centre.
• The morning of your fishing day, you can also show up directly at the registration centre in order to fish the same day.

The Plaisance trail is 5 km long. The starting point is near the registration centre and the campground. It forms a loop as it crosses the river by a walkway named La Plaisance. On your way, you'll notice a salmon pool, small waterfalls, and flat rocks that provide a perfect place for relaxing and cooling off your feet. It's an easy hike and will suit the whole family. Pay special attention to the panoramic view along the trail. Stop for a while and contemplate the beautiful view! Benches are available along the way.

The La Montée trail offers a bit of a challenge! It has a high level of difficulty, is 4 km long, and goes up a continually rising slope. The effort it requires is truly worth the trouble. Take your time at the top. A lookout with tables and rest area offers a spectacular view of Baie de Port-Daniel. Often a breeze will gently caress you while you relax. And your eyes will feast on the scenery!

For a day, you can visit the reserve for a walk and a picnic. The lookout on the La Montée trail is ideal for picnicking. There are tables and a covered rest area. Stop and ask at the registration centre.

In 2009, a bear-watching site will be set up far from the cabins. To get there, ask at the registration centre when you arrive.

While hiking, take time to pick some berries, notably cherries and raspberries. Depending on the season, you may also find hazel nuts and several kinds of mushrooms.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a small game day hunting right of access, are allowed to hunt for free.

Package

A family package for 2 adults and 2 children under 18 is available on weekdays from July 6 to September 4, 2009.

At All Times

In addition, children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 4 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 5 or more adults.

If cabin capacity allows, additional children can stay for a cut rate of $10/day/child.

Children under 18 accompanied by an adult with a day fishing right of access are allowed to fish for free.

The group campground allows young people under 18 to camp for a cut rate of $5 per person per night.
