Over 800 lakes are accessible for fishing. They have walleye, lake trout, northern pike, speckled trout, smallmouth bass, and sturgeon. Some lakes are accessible only by ATV or 4X4.

Réserve faunique La Vérendrye belongs to provincial hunting zones 12 and 13. Moose hunting is limited by quota in the reserve and is subject to random draw. The territory is divided into about fifty hunting sectors. Since the supply exceeds the demand because of tricky access to some sectors with large bodies of water, a 3-year contract is offered to hunters who wish to manage their own exclusive hunting grounds. This package provides for a consecutive 9-day hunting stay.

Density: slightly above 3.5 moose/10 km2.

Hunting statistics

Since autumn 2002, there has been open hunting of white-tailed deer in the southern portion of the wildlife reserve. Hunting territories have an average area of 126 km².

Outaouais sector

The vast territory provides a wide range of sites for hunting while keeping the pressure on bear numbers at a low level. Bear hunting is offered under the European plan with accommodations in the Domaine cabins for hunting stays of 4 to 6 days (minimum 2 hunters/stay). Abitibi sector

Bear hunting in the northern sector of the wildlife reserve is managed by a concessionaire.

It's possible to hunt the following small game species: Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migratory birds if you have a migratory game bird hunting permit in addition to a small game hunting licence.

• October 13 to October 24, 2010 (cabins at Le Domaine)
• October 13 to October 31, 2010 (Nord sector)

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their right of access on line or at the reserve. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare.

Packages

A family package for 2 adults and 2 children under 18 is available on weekdays early July to late August.

A family Special Vacation package, available on weekdays, provides a fishing or vacationing stay at a low price. It's an ideal way to pass on your love of nature to the whole family. Weekend and 7-day packages at Le Domaine include a fishing excursion for any parent accompanied by a child between late June and early September.

At All Times

In addition, children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 4 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 5 or more adults.

A family hunting package under the European plan (5 to 6 days in a cabin) is offered by random draw at 50% off the regular price for the whole group of hunters. To enter, at least one hunter must be a child 12 to 17 years old and have a hunter's certificate.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a small game hunting right of access for the day, are allowed to hunt for free.

If cabin capacity allows, additional children can stay for a cut rate of $10/day/child.

Children under 18, accompanied by an adult with a day fishing right of access, are allowed to fish for free.

Young people can camp on group campgrounds in wildlife reserves for a cut rate of $5.25 per person per night.
