Réserve faunique Assinica is part of a large beaver reserve for which the Cree are beneficiaries. Some fish species, like whitefish and sturgeon, are reserved for Cree communities.
Catch and possession limits:
- Speckled trout: 15 or 2.5 kg (whichever limit is reached first) + 1 speckled trout
- Lake trout: 3
- Northern pike: 8
- Walleye: 8
The lakes Cachisca, Comencho, and Opataca are the most popular ones for walleye fishing. There is a primitive campground in an open area by Lac Cachisca. Elsewhere, primitive camping is permitted on the road right-of-way. No services. See the Fishing-Camping package for more details.
Always be sure to put your extra clothing and sleeping bag in watertight containers. Pack a day or two of extra food if you're going out to a remote location. On a campground, don't store food in your tent and especially don't cook in your tent in order to avoid attracting unwanted animals.
Period: June 21 to August 26, 2013
